man dies airplane engine at Salt Lake City Airport Police said that he was then taken out of there
Keller Effinger, 30, was on a flight to San Francisco when he broke through an emergency exit door, walked onto the tarmac and climbed inside one of the jet’s engines, police said.
He then walked onto the tarmac and climbed into one of the jet’s engines.
The aircraft was sitting on a de-icing pad with its turbines spinning.
Effinger, who had a boarding pass from Denver, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Salt Lake City police said they found Effinger unconscious and emergency services pulled him out of the engine intake cowling, which directs air flow to the engine fan.
A store manager at Utah’s largest airport told airport control that he saw a passenger go through an emergency exit just before 10pm (5am GMT).
Authorities then found Effinger’s clothes, shoes and other personal items on a runway and told the pilot to shut down the plane’s engine.
Paramedics performed CPR and administered naloxone — a drug that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose and restore normal breathing — to revive the man.
Effinger’s cause and manner of death are still being determined by police.
A Delta spokeswoman told NBC News that Delta Flight 2348, from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, was canceled after passengers disembarked safely.
He added: “As nothing is more important than the safety and security of our customers and the public, Delta is cooperating fully with all aviation authorities and law enforcement investigations.”
