Two New York subway train collided on Thursday, injuring 24 people and disrupting commuters just before the megacity’s rush hour.
Dozens of police and fire tenders rushed to the area to evacuate hundreds of affected commuters, while commuters sought alternative routes as three subway lines were largely disrupted.
“1/2/3 service will be partially suspended at several stations in Manhattan through at least the end of today. Our crews are investigating after a train derailed near 96 St.,” New York City Subway on X.
We are preparing to repair the derailed train, move it to its storage facility, inspect the tracks and make necessary repairs to the tracks and infrastructure,” it said.
Emergency medical services commander at the scene Ian Swords said there were no casualties and 24 were injured, none of them seriously. The collision zone is in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side neighborhood.
Fire Department Commander Mike Meyers said, “At approximately 1500 hours, our units received a call that two vehicles had collided.” “After a train derailment near 96th Street, there is a major disruption to service while emergency crews assist and investigate passengers,” the New York City Subway said.
